Both New Zealand and Australian temperature data were “adjusted” – and in both cases, the adjustment was downward for the distant past and upward for the recent past: creating a warming trend that never really existed.
I particularly like this part (emphasis added):
Those adjustments were made by New Zealand climate scientist Jim Salinger, a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change who started work on the series when he was with the University of East Anglia, the centre of the Climategate scandal.
