Well, this wasn’t how it was supposed to go

When the nominees for Attorney General were finalized, it was presumed that one party would have a difficult time with its choice, to the point of possibly fending off criticism from its own side.

As it turns out, that has come to pass – just not with the presumed party (Jaded JD via Jason @ BD and Tim Watson):

Apparently Steve Shannon sent Ken Cuccinelli a letter complaining that Cuccinelli didn’t support a bill Shannon introduced in 2007, “which would have fixed Virginia’s law so we wouldn’t face the situation with drunk driving cases arising out of the Melendez-Diaz decision.” I hope that letter isn’t real because it does Shannon more harm than good.

. . .

As Jason Kenney pointed out in the comments to the original post, the bill died in a House sub-committee before ever reaching the Senate. Therefore, Shannon’s claim that “it would have been helpful for a Republican Senator on the Courts of Justice of Committee like [Cuccinelli], to stand up and help us secure passage” falls flat.

. . .

Shannon never re-introduced the legislation. I don’t see a similar bill in Shannon’s list of chief patroned, co-chief patroned, or co-patroned bills for 2008 or 2009. So Shannon stopped caring about the issue after 2007?

. . .

Most importantly, the bill is completely unrelated to the Melendez-Diaz decision.

. . .

So, had Shannon’s bill become law, it wouldn’t have alleviated the current problem because it would itself be invalid under Melendez-Diaz. What’s worse, by linking the bill to Melendez-Diaz and criticizing Cuccinelli for not supporting it, Shannon appears not to realize that. That doesn’t inspire confidence in an Attorney General candidate.

Where did the Democrats find this guy?

Yikes!
