Daily Kos is the latest to show Creigh Deeds getting a bounce from his primary win. Still, the news is good for Bob McDonnell.
To wit:
- The poll maintains a 39-32 Party ID split in favor of the Democrats – one point better for the Dems than the 2008 election, despite the Republican success in recent Virginia elections
- Hispanics and others are overrepresented (5% each) and are far more supportive of Deeds in this poll than recent history has shown for Democrats
- The poll says Deeds leads three-to-one in NoVa. Sorry, that won’t wash.
- Finally, the poll has McDonnell’s African-American support at 5%; typically, Republicans in Virginia get around 15% of the African-American vote (the poll has the AA UND at 24%).
Yet, despite all of the above: McDonnell is still on the right side of a statistical dead heat (45%-44%). If I’m Bob McDonnell right now, I’ll take that.
