Can you guess which candidate for Virginia’s 1st Congressional District said the following on the Wall Street panic bailout?
- “I’m totally against it. I haven’t met anybody yet who’s for it.” (Daily Press)
- “If we’re talking about buying assets and protecting taxpayers, that’s something I would consider.” (Daily Press)
- “We need to approve this thing on its own merit. Not with the sweeteners.” (Free Lance-Star)
- “We need to move on this.” (Free Lance-Star).
- “Ultimately, the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 fell far short of my goals and I could not support it.”
Here are the answers!
- Bill Day
- Bill Day
- Bill Day
- Bill Day (hmm, maybe he’s been looking at this too often)
- Congressman Rob Wittman
So Bill Day has had (by my count) four different positions on the bailout in two weeks. He’d be more lively than last night’s debate all by himself!
As is now common knowledge, Rob Wittman’s opposition to the Wall Street panic bailout, and his refusal to buckle under the pressure of the entire Washington establishment, led me to endorse his re-election last week. The more I look at the competition, the more I realize he could have done just about anything he wanted on those two votes and he still would have waltzed to victory.
As such, his insistence on doing the right thing becomes much more admirable.

You forgot to mention that Wittman was originally supporting bailout-palooza.
