Initial reaction to McCain’s campaign suspension

These are my first blush reactions. I’ll have more detailed thoughts as more information comes in later this evening.

The good news: The Paulson plan must be in serious trouble.

The bad news: This will make some form of government bailout more likely.

The political effect: How should I know?

You may already be aware that Barack Obama placed the initial call to John McCain on early Wednesday morning to propose that they issue a joint statement supporting a package to help fix the crisis our economy is facing. Given that fact,
I find McCain’s announcement to be little more than exploitation for partisan advantage, of a private request from Obama to unite in a time of national crisis. More to the point , I find John McCain’s transparent deception to be a very public demonstration of his character.

Let’s not give up yet. You have had a good series of posts on this subject. Conservative bloggers may be having some effect.

We need to keep up the din of complaints. We need to change the fight against the bailout to a fight for privatization.

Consider that the threat to our liberty has gotten so bad that a Republican administration seriously proposed to give ONE MAN almost unfettered authority to spend nearly one trillion dollars. If that does not cause people to stand up and pay attention, nothing will.

We must remind people how this happened. Almost none of the people who lead us are taking the time to read the Constitution and take it seriously. Otherwise, the Democrats would have never have created these infernal lending agencies. Otherwise the Republicans would have automatically fought to fix the problem by privatizing the entire system.

Our leaders are ignoring the document that protects our rights. They think we do not care. We need to prove them wrong.
