Where were the entreprenuers in this “common future”? Where were the investors? Where were those who wish to defeat our enemies?

The investors are being trained in better schools and being healed in better hospitals.

Needless to say, couldn’t agree more with your take. With all of the parsing and ignoring of actual issues in favor of ridiculous soundbites and shouting debates on TV, Obama’s speech was indeed some old wine — he brought nuance and complexity back into the public discourse. Unfortunately, that complexity and the acknowledgment that life isn’t simple gets run through our great media chopping machine and parsed out into simple phrases.

But I would expect better on the blogosphere? Marxism? Seriously? Where have you been the last 25 years?

What Obama was saying is that racism is real, but that we as Americans have a common purposes and a great future, and the only way for us to move forward is to look past our differences and work together for the greater good. I’m always amazed that right-wingers can find ways to disagree with this sentiment. If unity and optimism and hope is Marxist, I guess I’m a Commie.
