[...] Worth reading… Lest anyone forget, Gilmore and the GOP needed that record. Outside of Virginia, 1999 was not a Republican year. In fact, the elections of ‘99 were so bad that the good news in the Old Dominion was noticed from as far away as the editorial offices of the New York Post. [...]

Just saying. These guys are too clever by half.

Nicely done sarcasm, CJ, but I in no way mean to take away from Gilmore's record. My point was that Gilmore would have much tougher sledding without Marshall leading the House GOP to force the Dems to a power-sharing deal. Facts are stubborn things.

That also applies to the problematic parts of Gilmore's record - you can;t make that go away no matter how many snarky comments you throw at me.

As for "statewide" appeal, I'll leave that to the all the folks who support Marshall (from Tazewell to Loudoun).

Finally, I know of no one criticizing Senator Allen. Mr. Gilmore, however, serves on Barr's Board of Directors - a much deeper and more problematic involvement.

So, wait a minute, let me see if I follow you here DJ. You're saying that even though Jim Gilmore was an effective statewide campaigner who carried NoVa and forged a Republican majority, it was really all because of Bob Marshall?

You're really grasping at straws here. It seems to be becoming a pattern among Marshall supporters to engage in revisionist history at best and to outright lie about Jim Gilmore's record at worst.

I do kind of feel for you, you jumped on board with a candidate with no statewide appeal and are trying to run against a conservative with very little room to his right. I suppose the only way to run to Gilmore's right is to make up stuff and try to cast him as some sort of liberal.

I'll admit though, this is a welcome change from the McDonnell bashing you've been doing lately and the bizarre attacks on George Allen for owning Barr stock from some Marshall supporters as of late.
